Oceanside Woman Wins $1,000,000 Mega Millions Prize

Forty-four-year-old Carole Murphy from Oceanside has claimed a $1,000,000 Mega Millions second prize.  Murphy matched the first five numbers drawn for the January 29th drawing making her Nassau County’s newest Lottery millionaire.

“It’s amazing,” Murphy said of her million dollar win.  “You really do ‘gotta be in it to win it!”’

The winning Mega Millions numbers for the January 29 drawing were 10-33-53-54-62 Mega Ball 22.

The $1,000,000 Mega Millions second prize is paid as a one-time lump sum payment.  Murphy will receive a net check totaling $671,800 after required withholdings.

“I plan to donate a portion of the winnings and take a vacation to Bora Bora,” she said.

The winning ticket was purchased at Super Convenience on Long Beach Road in Oceanside.

Murphy is the 13th New York Lottery player to claim a prize totaling $1,000,000 or more this year.

The New York Lottery contributed $152,859,175 in Lottery Aid to Education to school districts in Nassau County during fiscal year 2017-2018.
