Bayside Man Wins $1,000,000 Mega Millions Prize

Sixty-eight-year-old Gerard McMahon from Bayside has claimed a $1,000,000 Mega Millions second prize. McMahon matched the first five numbers drawn for the January 1 drawing making him Queens County’s newest Lottery millionaire.
“It’s a very satisfying feeling,” explained McMahon. “I am very happy and excited.”
The winning Mega Millions numbers for the January 1 drawing were 34-44-57-62-70 Mega Ball 14.
The $1,000,000 Mega Millions second prize is paid as a one-time lump sum payment. McMahon will receive a net check totaling $633,040 after required withholdings.
“I plan to use the money to provide for my children and grandchildren and take a view trips,” he said.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Mike & Faye Deli Grocery on 235th Street in Little Neck.
McMahon is the 6th New York Lottery player to claim a prize totaling $1,000,000 or more this year.
The New York Lottery contributed $1,337,283,719 in Lottery Aid to Education to school districts throughout the five boroughs of New York City during fiscal year 2017-2018.
